We left off last time with you dozing off and me having a panic attack, realizing that we may or may not be moving to DC, but we certainly were moving out of our house in Dayton. It was at this point that things really started to move. That was Friday, July 14th.
We came back to Dayton later that weekend, and on Monday, I had a job offer from the place I interviewed on Friday. That was pretty impressive turn around. I hadn't even mailed my thank you note yet. My "thanks for the interview" note turned into a "thanks for the job" note. They wanted me to start in two weeks, but we hadn't even started looking for a place to live yet. Then they wanted an August 15th start date. But we were planning on starting a vacation that day, so we settled on August 24th.
The following weekend we drove back to DC to find a place to live. We found that it would be tough to find a place to rent because of our two "large" and "aggressive" dogs. So we started looking at condos. To buy. In 2006. Oh, we were stupid. But at least it wasn't 2005. Anyway, we toured seemingly dozens of places and found one that we thought might work. But I had to fly back home and go to work, so Mike stayed behind for the next week to put a contract in on the place and go on another interview. Our contract was eventually accepted, and we would close on the new place on August 21st. Yay! A place to live!
Early August was consumed with packing and figuring out how to deal with our period of homelessness from August 15th - August 21st. The answer to that is GO TO THE BEACH. Obviously. We had fully appointed our realtor in Dayton to do everything on our behalf at the 8/15 closing on that house, so we wouldn't have to be there. Here's part of a fun little timeline that Mike put together so we could remember this funky adventure.
August 11 - Julie's last day at old job
August 12 - Pick up and pack up the U-haul
August 13 - Hire some burly dudes to pack up the furniture into the truck because my family had already gone to the beach, and they were really trying to make it difficult for us to leave anyway. Take the U-Haul and the brown dog to Mike's parents' house to stay while we are gone.
August 14 - AM - Keep on packing (packing = putting junk in my parents' garage) and cleaning; take the gray dog to the kennel; PM - Go to a tennis tournament with Mike's parents because we obviously had plenty of time to do that. After tennis, continuing cleaning and packing, with breaks for crying because OMG what were we doing? Continue that last part until 3AM on
August 15 - Sleep for a couple hours before driving to DC so Mike could go to another interview scheduled for 4PM that day; closing day on the Dayton house; drive to Virginia Beach after the interview in DC
August 16 - Commence vacation relaxation with occasional freak outs because Mike didn't have a job yet
August 17 - Mike gets a job!
August 19 - Drive back to DC
August 20 - Final walk-through on condo
August 21 - Closing on condo
August 22 - Fly back to Dayton to get our stuff, our dogs, and my car
August 23 - Drive our stuff in the U-Haul, our dogs, and my car to DC
August 24 - I start my job; Mike and burly college guys unload our stuff into the condo; mostly; after I get home from work, we call in reinforcements to get the rest of our stuff off of the sidewalk in front of our building; we pass out
August 29 - Mike starts his job
And now, as we start this process over again, we have the opposite circumstances. We both have jobs when me move, we just don't have a place to live or a buyer for our current place. Which leads me to believe I should quit typing and start getting this place into selling shape. And if you know anyone who wants a spacious 1-bedroom condo in the DC suburbs, close to Metro, and in a park-like setting, please let me know. Right away.

That adventure sure was funky.
I remember thinking at the time how crazy it was that you guys just up and decided to move, and then like two months later you had done it.
See, reading this just makes me want to move all my stuff to a brand new state. I think that makes me crazy.
You didn't think we'd do it, did you, Joe?
Jennie, maybe you can settle for moving all your stuff to a brand new apartment.
